  • Microsoft Kernel System Audio Device or Microsoft Kernal wave audio mixer sound problems? no sound but the drivers are all installed on Windows XP? We recently had a problem on a PC like this and found that if we took the file KMixer.sys from a good computer and placed it in the same location on the problem computer that it solved it.
  • Hard Disk Low on Space ? Use DiskCleanup to free unwanted files from your computer HDD. (Run from Windows Explorer or My Computer)

  • Suspect some of your windows files have gone astray?
From the start menu, click Run, then type COMMAND. Next type SFC at the prompt & hit enter. The MS System File Checker will now run & inform you of any file discrepencies.

  • Computer running slow?
Check to see how much CPU / Memory etc. you are using. Press <CTRL> <ALT> & <DEL> all together to bring up the task manager. Look under 'Performance' to see your memory and processor usage. This will tell you how much of each you are using & you can then see if an upgrade is necessary.

  • Have lots of computers on your Network?
Drag the Network Neighbourhood icon to the side of the screen & you'll get an additional taskbar.
  • Thinking of having a new computer? Old computer starting to run slow? Take a good look at Linux. The various distributions are now an excellent alternative to Microsoft windows, and arecompletely FREE! The various distro's can also breathe new life into old computers because after installation the system requirements will be so much lower, therefore making your computer operate faster. Many other free alternatives are also available for your computer software, for example www.openoffice.org supply an excellent office suite that is compatible with other formats and again is free.
